The Tahoma
School District has adopted the Sports
Education Curriculum K-12 for Physical Education. This model
incorporates many different team sports with each unit lasting approximately
2– 5 weeks. The unit length varies depending upon the
amount of preparation and planning on the team level. The
typical unit involves learning the rules and skills for
a particular sport, participating in one of several different
roles, participating in formal competition and culminates with a final
event/festivity.
Each sport unit offers a slightly different role that students
play. However, all students (who are not injured) will always find
themselves in the role of player when they are not
refereeing. All students will find themselves refereeing
and/or scorekeeping when their team is not playing.
Occasionally, a student will find him/herself in the role of team
captain.
