Mrs. Newbrey

I attended Interlake High School in Bellevue and then went to WWU, the UW,  and graduated from CWU. My husband has worked for the Seattle Fire Department as an officer at Medic 1 for more than 30 years. We have two sons, both of whom graduated from Kentwood High School. Our oldest graduated from  WWU with a degree in Operations Management and was recently hired by the Seattle Fire Department; he is currently going through the grueling three month recruit class. The youngest is getting his BA, working for a seafood broker,  and expecting his second child in February. (this makes me sound quite old doesn't it; actually, I am).

I've been teaching in the Tahoma School District for 23 years, all of them here at Lake Wilderness. I currently team with Mr. Finch for science and social studies. One of the goals of the program is to help prepare our students for the transition to Middle School in 6th grade. Our first social studies unit includes the discovery, colonization, and fight for independence of the United States. We then move on to Westward Movement and the Civil War. There is a great deal of reading about the topics we're studying and an equal amount of writing. Most of the writing is expository, taking the form of summaries, writing to inform, and writing to explain.

Bus Passes/Getting Home

Please remember that your child will need a note from home to ride a bus other than his/her own. Please include the following information: bus number, address they will be going to, and the name of the person they will be going home with. Or, if there is any change in your child's normal going home routine, please send a note telling how your child will be getting home and who is picking them up. This is only to aid in the safety of our children.

Early Check-out

Please remember that you must go to Office A to sign your child out if you will be picking him/her up before the end of the school day. It is also possible to get permanent pick-up passes.

Visitors

All visitors to LWES must check in at Office A. There is a sign-in sheet, and badges must be worn at all times while you are on school premises. Again, this is for the safety of all of our children and we appreciate your cooperation.

Safe Arrival

As part of our safe arrival program, we would like you to call in to the safe arrival number to let us know that your child is going to be out for the day or delayed in arriving. Our safe arrival phone number is 206.654.1856.
