Course Description: This course will focus on understanding the basic operations and functions of a digital single lens reflex camera and the manipulation of its settings to achieve a specific result. Three areas of instruction will be emphasized: how cameras work, how composition works, how to use photo editing software. Students will write and speak about aesthetic, technical and expressive qualities in a photograph, learning to critique their own and others work.

Course Fee: There is a $15 course fee that covers the cost of art materials that are handed out in class and for printing purposes.

Absences: It is important to attend class regularly because absences will affect the student’s success in class since the tools needed for this course are provided in the classroom, making it difficult to work at home. Many assignments in this class will be graded at the student’s computer or will be printed out and placed in a folder. If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to talk to the teacher about what he/she had missed. Also, if the student is not able to make up assignments during class time, the student needs to be prepared to spend time during BEAR time or after school to make up any missing assignments.

 Assignments/ Grading:

-   Projects: 70% of classroom grade (following criteria and the completion of classroom assignments/ projects)

-   Classroom participation/ citizenship: 20% of grade, includes responding in a journal for Entry Task and following classroom rules. Students will be graded on for their use of class-time and responsibility for cleaning up and following procedures.

-   Test/ portfolio (CBPA= Classroom Based Performance Assessment) 10%

 -   Makeup Work (late, missing, incomplete): All projects are due on the due date.  Each day the  project is late, 10 points will be taken off and after 3 days a 0 will have to be                given.  Being on time with projects is the student’s responsibility.
