 6th Grade Art Course Description:  In 6th grade art students will create 2D and 3D artwork using a variety of media and techniques. Students will explore various artists and art styles during each project. Students will practice keeping a sketchbook to plan out ideas and participate in class critiques. 

2D Art Course Description: In 2D Art students will create 2-dimensional artwork using a variety of media and techniques (drawing, painting, printmaking). During each project students will explore various artists and styles of art. Students will learn how to analyze artwork during discussions and through critiques. Students will develop their own style by creating sketches to plan for major art projects. Students will create a portfolio of work throughout the course that demonstrates increasing skill and ability. 

3D Art Course Description: In 3D art students will create 3-dimensional artwork using a variety of media and techniques (paper sculptures, papier mache, cardboard, wire, clay). During each project students will explore various artists and styles of art. Students will learn how to analyze artwork during discussions and through critiques. Students will develop their own style by creating sketches to plan for major art projects. Students will develop an online portfolio throughout the course that demonstrates increasing skill and ability.  
 
Digital Art Course Description: In Digital Art students will create 2-dimensional artwork using a variety of media and techniques that utilize technology (photography and Adobe Photoshop). During each assignment students will explore various artists, ,styles of art, and skills to utilize in everyday settings. Students will learn how to analyze artwork during discussions and through critiques.  Students will develop an online portfolio throughout the course that demonstrates increasing skill and ability.  
 
 
 
Course Fee: There is a $10 course fee that covers the cost of art materials that are handed out in class.
 
Absences: It is important to attend class regularly because absences will affect the student’s success in class since the tools needed for this course are provided in the classroom, making it difficult to work at home. Many assignments in this class will be graded at the student’s computer or will be printed out and placed in a folder. If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to talk to the teacher about what he/she had missed. Also, if the student is not able to make up assignments during class time, the student needs to be prepared to spend time during BEAR time or after school to make up any missing assignments.  

 Assignments/ Grading:

-   Projects: 60% of classroom grade (following criteria and the completion of classroom assignments/ projects)

-   Classroom participation/ assignments: 30% of grade, includes responding in a sketchbook/ journal for Entry Task and following classroom rules. Students will be graded on for their use of class-time and responsibility for cleaning up and following procedures.

- Sketchbook Assignments- 10%

 -   Makeup Work (late, missing, incomplete): All projects are due on the due date but students have up to 2 weeks to turn in late work (but not for full credit). 

 -Extra Help: Mrs. Headley is available during BEAR time and 30 minutes after school Wednesdays and Thursdays, unless attending a meeting, or any other time by appointment.
