Dear Second Grader and Family,

Welcome to the second grade!  I am so excited to be your second grade teacher.  My goal is to encourage and support my students’ efforts to learn, to build positive relationships with others, and to foster a life-time love of learning.  I will share with each of my students my belief in them and their abilities, and hold them accountable for working to their potential so that they will develop confidence in themselves as learners and the strength to pursue their dreams.

Second grade is an important year in continuing to build and strengthen foundational reading, writing and math skills, as well as to teach important social and interpersonal skills.   It is my philosophy that learning is a combination of exploring, creating, and experiencing.  My goal is to guide my students into becoming eager, independent, and responsible learners.  Parental support is a key element in helping each student achieve these expectations.  I look forward to working closely with you.

We will begin the yearwith our first unit of study being an exploration of the Early America.  Next, we will study the rainforest of South America, concluding with Early Earth studies in the spring. We also will be delving into science this year with weekly science explorations and studying the impact of deforestation in the rainforest.

Many students look forward to second grade because they can already read and are beginning to read to enhance learning.  I look forward to teaching my students strong reading skills and motivating them to read with important and interesting topics to read about!

I hope you and your family have a great summer.  Please mark August 28 at 1:00-2:00 for our Meet and Greet Open House.  You and your child may come in to portable E-1, meet me, and put supplies away in desks. See you then with all your cool, new supplies!

Warmly,

Mrs. Crider (formerly known as Ms. Mocquet)
