WELCOME TO PROJECT LEAD THE WAY

1st Semester

AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS/DESIGN AND MODELING

2nd Semester

MEDICAL DETECTIVES/FLIGHT AND SPACE

ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT/GREEN ARCHITECTURE

Syllabus/Course Descriptions:

First Semester

Automation and Robotics

During the course we will be learning about what engineering is and how the design process works.  We will then explore mechanical system and conclude by applying our engineering knowledge and processes to create automated devices.

Design and Modeling

Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy.  The use of modeling software Autodesk Inventor and Sketch Up is introduced.  Use of 3d printers is also explored.

Medical Detectives

During the 9 week course we will be learning many aspects of how the human body works and how knowing this helps scientists and investigators find clues to help solve problems and crimes. The course ends with an investigation into the mystery crime.  DNA analysis will be used to find identify the guilty party.

Energy and the Environment

Students are challenged to think big and toward the future as they explore sustainable solutions to our energy needs and investigate the impact of energy on our lives and the world. They design and model alternative energy sources and evaluate options for reducing energy consumption.
