Educational Growth and Development 1,2,3
• EGD1 TJHS Academic Choices
• EGD2 TSHS Student Support Center
• EGD3 TSHS New Vision

Educational Growth and Development classes are designed to teach students the skills and the outlook they need to be resilient and successful. The focus is helping students develop habits to:
• build and maintain a positive self-image
• communicate effectively
• understand and accept responsibility
• set and achieve goals
• solve problems

In addition to helping our students develop pro-active habits, the staff will focus on four core learning criteria that are both rigorous and relevant to the individualized learning plan of the student. Our program's four core learning criteria are:

  • Stretch learning
  • Core academic learning
  • Student engagement
  • Personal skills development

Students will develop a greater sense of self-esteem, social and personal responsibility, and develop community connections. Personal growth will be represented through a reflection portfolio containing evidence of rigor, relevance, and relationships. As students progress through each class, they will explore these skills at a more in-depth level through the use of Tahoma’s Outcomes and Indicators. Curriculum on personal development and organizational skills will serve as a format for meeting these skills.

Class completion: To receive 0.5 credit and grade for the EGD electives, students must satisfactorily complete all of the following:
• Outside reading requirement
• Self-reflective journal assignments
• Participation in Group activities led by TSD staff
• Participate in a WASL preparation program if the student has not yet met standard
• Actively work to achieve individualized learning plan

*See grade requirment docs for information on earning a letter grade while earning  credit
