Welcome to
Tahoma High School Inquiry Science.
Inquiry Science is a way of learning in which the students are
given the opportunity to explore a subject and make their own
observations and draw their own conclusions instead of doing "book
work" or listening to lectures in order to learn. Inquiry
science seeks to be hands-on as much as possible and so the more
the student engages in the learning process, the more likely they
will come away with not just facts but actual understanding of
scientific processes and ideas.
Science is often about getting it wrong rather than getting it
right. In my classroom, students are encouraged to express
their opinions and ideas. Often, something that might be
"wrong" will lead to greater understanding when clarified.
Misconceptions are a major blockade to scientific understanding and
when students share these, it gives the instructor the opportunity
to correct and explain.
If you don't make mistakes, you're not working
on hard enough problems. And that's a big mistake. -Frank
