
Welcome To Our School:
Tahoma High
School was recently selected to participate in a nationwide
partnership with the Council of Chief State School Officers, the
Successful Practices Network. Our school has begun this five-year
initiative designed to bring the effective practices our school uses to
scale. We will gather and share the information about our
school’s best practices and our reputation for providing all
students with a rigorous and relevant education.
Tahoma High School
will use the criteria to create a common agenda and personalized action
plans to track our continuous improvement in having all students
perform at high levels of rigor and relevance.
Our school features a
well-rounded curriculum highlighted by a strong vocational program,
many AP offerings and University of Washington classes. We offer
integrated programs in which students learn content more thoroughly as
well as thinking skills and behaviors. Expanding opportunities to earn
college credit while attending high school include college literary
analysis, college geology and college Spanish/French; all four classes
earn UW college credit. Inquiry-based science program allows students
to seek out answers to scientific principles through hands-on learning.
Advanced: Several UW classes. Honors classes in language arts
and social studies. "We the People"
team has won state championship eleven consecutive years and finished
fourth in the nation in 2001. Strong math, speech and debate teams. A
high percentage of our students participate in extracurricular
programs.
Vocational: Video productions, animal/plant science, business
procedures, computer-aided design, computer networking/applications,
floriculture, Pro-Start foods, materials science, retail operations,
careers in education, fashion and clothing design, metals, woods,
marketing. We offer an
alternating block schedule with three periods a day and 100 minutes
class periods.
