Thank You! 2009 Spirit Wear Design! Order Form. ![]() TRYOUTS BEGIN APRIL 13TH, FIRST DAY AFTER SPRING BREAK! TRYOUTS FOR 8TH GRADE BASEBALL WILL BE AT GRACIE HANSON FIELD IN RAVENSDALE. BOTH BLUE AND GOLD 8TH GRADE TEAMS WILL BE PRACTICING HERE UNTIL 9TH GRADE BASEBALL ENDS AT THE JR. HIGH. GET YOUR Athletic Participation Card and Physical BEFORE TRYOUTS! Try to have your Athletic Participation card by April 3rd! This is the last day before spring break. Students without a pink card will not be allowed to try out and it will affect whether they make the team. COMMUNITY TEAMS! Many students in Maple Valley play on community teams. This will help them develop their skills to become a solid baseball player. Community baseball will have no impact on whether a student makes the school team. If you are on a community team, SCHOOL BALL COMES FIRST! Students will not be allowed to leave games early to attend something for their other team. PRESEASON TRAINING! If students are not on a community team, do not wait until tryouts to get into shape, especially your arm. Start running and lifting now. To build arm strenght, start throwing 3-4 times a week. Throw 15-20 at short range and then extend the distance as the arm warms up. End with 15-20 long toss throws. At any time if the arm hurts, STOP!! TRYOUTS! Be sure to be properly outfitted for the first tryout. Catching gear, helmets, and bats will be provided. Gloves need to be provided by the student. Students may use their own catching gear and bats if they meet standards. Also, be sure to wear a hat, long sleeve shirts, and baseball pants or sweats. No jeans or shorts. Students will be graded during 3 days of tryouts. Students will be graded on attitude, baseball ability, baseball knowledge, academics and behavior. To see the grade sheets used during tryouts, go to the links window on this webpage and open "Tryout Gradesheets". Final scores of tryouts will not be made public. LOCATION OF TRYOUTS! Due to field availability, the 8th grade baseball team will be bus to Gracie Hanson for the first few weeks of practice. Once the 9th grade baseball team has completed its season, the practices will be moved to Tahoma Jurnior High. There will be no bus transportation home after tryouts. Students need to be picked up at Gracie Hanson. CUTS! Unforturnately, Tahoma 8th grade baseball is a cut sport. If a student is cut, it is very important that they not give up on baseball. Individuals develop and progress at diffenent rates. Please continue to turn out for baseball. |
