SCHEDULE:
PHILOSOPHY: Our philosophy as health and fitness teachers at Tahoma Junior High is to promote lifelong physical activity. The intent of our physical education program is to provide each student the opportunity to participate in a variety of enjoyable physical activities. Emphasis will be on the goals of physical fitness, through the use written materials, CBAs, and the acquisition of skills and concepts in which the student can participate after graduation. My goal for all students, no matter which physical education class they are in, is that when leaving they are able identify at least one activity they feel they could pursue throughout life; and that they possess the knowledge of the importance of lifelong physical activity!!! Physical education is not what it used to be and hopefully you'll see this through the experience your child has at TJH! In 9th grade health, students are exposed to numerous topics that relate to their everyday life. From self-esteem and stress, to nutrition, drug education, and relationships, students receive information and decision making skills that can impact their lives forever! Students should see the "real life" impact in class daily. My goal for students is that they will leave with an understanding of why it's important to make healthy choices, the consequences of not making healthy choices, and the ability to make informed, positive decisions throughout their lives. PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY OF MISS SAVERUD! Originally from Kalispell, Montana I came to Washington to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. By the end of my Freshman year I'd decided to pursue my lifelong love for physical activity and declared my major as Health & Fitness. Four and a half years later I completed this degree with a teaching certification and a coaching minor. After graduating from PLU in December, 2002, I was fortunate to get the ideal job at Tahoma Junior High and am currently in my sixth year here. I love the students and staff that I work with and feel truly blessed to be where I am! In addition to teaching I also coach 9th grade volleyball and am an assistant coach for Tahoma High School Track. When I'm not teaching or coaching I enjoy working out, playing volleyball and soccer on recreational teams, being in the outdoors, and hanging out with friends. I'm currently keeping busy by pursuing my Masters degree in Health and Human Performance from Central Washington University. |
