Dear Families,

I’m looking forward to being your child’s teacher next year! Today, during move up day, your student was able to meet me and his/her classmates for the upcoming school year.

I have been teaching in the Tahoma School District for 17 years. I am very invested in Glacier Park which, in my biased opinion, is the best school in the world.  My husband Andy Hanson is a 4th grade teacher here as well.

5th Grade is my favorite grade to teach! I love the curiosity that students have and their cooperative spirit. Next year, our main social studies units include the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.  Students will also continue with reader’s and writer’s workshop and a rich math program. Something new in 5th grade is the focus on science. Be prepared to hear about the fun investigations we will be conducting in class. It is my goal for every student to be inspired to give their best each day and to take responsibility for their learning.

This year Glacier Park will be having their Open House before school. On August 30th from 6:00-7:00 classrooms will be open. Families are invited to come and meet the teacher and bring in school supplies. I look forward to seeing you at this event.

Study skills and organization is something that I value, and is an integral part of my teaching program. Therefore, I ask every child to bring an accordion folder to and from school each day. This routine will help them as they transfer into middle school. There is a supply list under documents.  Please have your student bring these supplies to the Open House in August or on the first day of school unpacked and ready to go.

Communication is very important to me. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. I can be reached over the summer via email at .

I am already anticipating a great year ahead with your child and I look forward getting to know each of you. Have a wonderful summer!
