Our mascot is the Tiger.

Please call this number if your student will be late arriving at school or will be absent from school.

Contact Information

There are three ways to get in touch with me.

1.  Email is the best way! :)  Send emails to and I will reply the same day if it is received during or before school hours. (My email will hopefully be updated in the next week or so to match my new last name… stay tuned!)

2.  You can call and leave a message at the school. The school phone number is 425-413-6100.  I do not always get these messages before school is out for the day, but I will contact you as soon as possible.

3.  Feel free to send a handwritten note with your child. He or she can give me the note in the morning and I will reply by the end of the day.

School Hours

School hours for students are 8:40 am- 3:10 pm.

Students may enter the classroom and start the day at 8:30 am.

School hours on Early Release Fridays are 8:40 am-1:40 pm

Parent Communication

Starting September 11th, I will send a newsletter home each Monday via e-mail. It will include information about what we are working on that week and any important dates you’ll need to be aware of. :)  If you would prefer a hard copy of the newsletter, please let me know!

I will occasionally communicate through Remind101, which is a cool app that allows me to text families without having to get cell phone numbers. Remind messages are generally quick things (i.e. “Don’t forget, tomorrow is pajama day!”  or “Tomorrow is the last day of the book fair!).

I just started a private class Instagram page (username is FunTimesinFourthGrade …please feel free to add me!). I will feature pictures of all the fun things happening in class several times a week. Students with Instagram accounts may follow the page if I have received written parent permission, a quick email is fine :)

Coming to school on time every day and staying until dismissal is crucial to student success! The learning experience that occurs in our classroom cannot be replicated at home by completing make up work.  Please try to schedule appointments and family vacations around the school schedule whenever possible.

Of course, life happens and there are circumstances when absences are unavoidable. If your child is ill or will miss school for any reason, please contact the office and let them know as soon as possible.

If your child arrives at school after 8:40 am,  he or she needs to check in to the office for a tardy slip before coming to the classroom.  This is to ensure that he or she is not inaccurately marked absent.  If you know that your child will be tardy to school, please call the school office (425-413-6100).

Change in Routine

If there is a change in your child’s end of the day routine (riding the bus with a friend, being picked up instead of taking the bus, etc.), please call the office or send a note with your child in the morning.

Early Pick-Up

If you are picking up early, you must stop in to the office and sign your child out.  The front office will call down to our classroom and I will send your child to the office.  It is a good idea to allow about 5 to 10 minutes for this process.

Adults at school

All visiting adults in Tahoma School District buildings are asked to wear identification badges for the safety of students . These badges are in the office where you will need to sign in.

I welcome and appreciate parent helpers in my classroom. I use parent volunteers to work with small groups of students, help prepare materials for future lessons, and various other tasks. If you would like to volunteer in our classroom, please send me an email and we can work out a schedule! Please be sure that you have filled out volunteer paperwork and are cleared through the district office.

Snack and Water Bottles

Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school to tide them over until lunchtime. We will have a snack break each morning. Please avoid sending snacks with peanuts or tree nuts due to allergies. I strongly encourage children to keep a water bottle at school to minimize drinking fountain distractions. Students have many opportunities throughout the day to re fill them.

Tahoma School District has a policy against bringing food for birthday celebrations. If you would like to send a non- food treat (bubbles, pencils, stickers, etc.) for your child’s birthday, you are more than welcome to!

If you know that your child will often buy lunch at school, you may send in cash or write a check for several lunches, made payable to Tahoma Food Services. Lunch money will be collected each morning and sent to the office.

Students will receive a homework chart each Monday to be turned in on Friday. Our first homework packet will come home on Monday, September 18th. Stay tuned for more information!

Friday Folders

Each Friday, I will pass back student work. Students will bring their assignments home in yellow “Friday Folders”. Be sure to check for these each week! It’s a great way to stay updated on what we’re working on at school and see your child’s progress.

The Tiger Way

At Shadow Lake, we have three school wide expectations.

*Show Respect

*Make Good Decisions

*Solve Problems

During the year, our class will frequently reference and discuss the Tiger Way.

Thank you for taking the time to read through all this information. Check your email and your child’s backpack for more important information in the weeks to come! I’m looking forward to a GREAT year!
