My name is Lyssa Nelson and I couldn’t be more excited to be your child’s teacher this upcoming year. I am an enthusiastic and positive teacher with a commitment to helping students learn using many different teaching strategies to accommodate all types of learning styles. I just retired after 25 years of teaching in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My years of teaching have all been in the K-2 grades, with most recently having been in first grade for the past eleven years. I am excited to continue my teaching career in First Grade at Shadow Lake and honored to become a part of the Tiger Family.

Here is a little about myself:  My name is pronounced (Lisa). I was born and raised in Albuquerque, graduated from The University of New Mexico. I have been married to my wonderful husband Dan for 27 years and we have three children. Our son Zachary is 25, lives in Issaquah and works at Cost-Co Corporate Office, our daughter MacKenzye is 22 and just graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and our daughter Brooke is 18 will be attending Western Washington University in the fall. I enjoy watching all kinds of sports, reading, hiking, camping, and paddle boarding. Maple Valley is absolutely beautiful, and I am enjoying all the green, especially being from the desert.

I look forward to working with your child and know it will be a positive and rewarding experience for all of us.
