Intro to Marketing, Marketing, Advance Marketing, and Store Operations

Tahoma High School

Dear Parent/Guardian/Student:

Please allow me to introduce myself, Mr. John Devlin, the Marketing and DECA Advisor for Tahoma High School. I have over 25 years of professional experience in the workforce and 10 years of teaching experience. (Two years at Centralia High School and nine years with the Renton School District.)   I am currently a Reserve Police Officer with the Tonasket Police Department.  The management and customer service skills I have acquired are invaluable for teaching marketing at the high school level.

In addition to working in the business world, I have earned an Associate in Arts and Sciences from Bellevue Community College, AAS in Fire and Command Administration from Bellevue Community College, Career and Technical Teaching Certification, Applied Mathematics Certification and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Social Sciences with a Minor in Psychology from Central Washington University.

Marketing is a program designed to prepare students for careers in marketing, merchandising, management and entrepreneurship. This program offers students the skills needed to enter and advance in a marketing-related career, build the foundation needed to someday own a business and prepare students to have the confidence to make decisions for their future.

As part of the marketing program, your son/daughter will be a member of the Association of Marketing Students organization called DECA. (Distributive Education Clubs of America) the purpose of Tahoma High Schools DECA is to encourage development of leadership qualities, professional understanding, social awareness, and a sense of responsibility to the school and community. It is each student’s choice as to how active he/she will become in DECA.  The local, state and national dues are $20.00 for the school year payable to THS DECA by September 25, 2018.

Please read and return the syllabus for the classes that discuss the operating policies for Marketing.  If you should have any questions, please contact me at (253) 653-0233 or by email jdevlin@tahomasd.us.  I will be happy to make an appointment to meet with you at school.

Sincerely,

John Devlin
